We all have those best friends that do not belong to what we call the “ordinary” circle. We call them weird, but there’s a more appropriate term: GEEK! That’s right, they’re the kind of people who would rather indulge in fantasy worlds, be it slaying dragons, saving the princess, corrupting dungeons, and even the superhero world. Fortunately, and unfortunately, for me, I have a best friend who’s a bigger geek than I am. I am a proponent of Marvel comics, figurines, video games, and even sci-fi, but my best friend has a broader range of interests given that he’s involved in TCG or trading card games and TTRPG or table top roleplaying games like Dungeons and Dragons.
Again, we all have that kind of friend who’s a geek or nerd, and they are the most sincere people that we’ll have the privilege of meeting. Actor Simon Pegg, star of Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, is also a geek and has this to say about geekhood:
“Being a geek is all about being honest about what you enjoy and not being afraid to demonstrate that affection. It means never having to play it cool about how much you like something. It’s basically a license to proudly emote on a somewhat childish level rather than behave like a supposed adult. Being a geek is extremely liberating.”
If you want to show your love for your geeky best friend, you may want to indulge in these fantastic gift items that are perfect for their interests. I’ve given my BFF a couple of these for the past Christmases and Birthdays.
Video game gift ideas
Legend of Zelda Songring – Any geek will have heard of the famous Legend of Zelda franchise, and they would love to have any merchandise that would involve this particular game. The Legend of Zelda Songring is cast in stainless steel and displays the notes from the music of Ocarina of Time.
Zelda Hylian Shield – Another merchandise from the franchise Legend of Zelda, and this time, it’s Link’s Hylian Shield. This would go well on your BFF’s wall or for his or her pretend plays to save Hyrule from Ganon.
Borderland Psycho Bandit Mask – The psychos from the game Borderlands are probably the notable icons of the game. Give your geek BFF the gift of evil by giving him the Borderlands Psycho Bandit Mask, complete with details and LED light eyes for that menacing look. The mask is hand-painted, giving it that Steampunk and vulgar look all at once.
Nintendo Power Glove Oven Mitt – Though your BFF may or may not be a cook, giving him this Nintendo Power Glove Oven Mitt is something that he or she will consider taking up cooking lessons for. The Nintendo Power Glove was the epitome of a true gamer back in the 90s.
Mega Man Arm Pillow – Mega Man is also one of those popular video games back in the 90s, and geeks back then knew how difficult yet rewarding it was to finish the game. Add more nostalgia to your gift idea by giving your BFF the Mega Man Arm Pillow. It fits right on your forearm and is designed as Mega Man’s Blaster. Costume not included though.
Star Wars gift goodies
Star Wars, much like Star Trek, is like a religion for geeks. They worship the Force, felt the pain of Anakin’s past, and argue as to whether or not Han Solo shot first. Below are some of the most awesome Star Wars gift items that your BFF will surely love.
LED Lightsabers – Admit it. Your BFF has a recurring fantasy of being a Jedi. Why not fulfil their dreams of being a Jedi by giving them the LED lightsaber. The entire thing is made from aircraft-grade aluminium, giving it that durability for battling with a Sith, depending on the style of the lightsaber.
Yoda Hoodie – Yoda is one of the most iconic characters of the Star Wars franchise. Turn your BFF into Yoda by giving them the Yoda Hoodie. The hoodie top is designed like the forehead of Yoda, complete with the ears, and the jacket looks like a Jedi robe.
BobaFett Helmet – “Execute Order 66!”, The popular line that BobaFett dictated to eliminate the Jedi in the Prequel trilogy. The helmet is like a complete costume all rolled into one because you can make jet pack sounds, blaster sounds, and even sounds from the movies.
Chewbacca Fur Hoodie – Turn your BFF into Han Solo’s sidekick, Chewbacca, with this Chewbacca Fur Hoodie. Much like the Yoda Hoodie, the Chewbacca Fur Hoodie gives you the feeling of being Chewbacca, minus the gruff and growls. It will also keep you warm during the cold nights of Tauntaun.
Star Wars iPhone Cases – These iPhone cases are sure to add geekiness to your BFF’s phone. From Darth Vader to R2D2 to C3PO, these are sure to turn a few heads once your BFF gets their phone out.
R2D2 Bathrobe – Who wouldn’t want to look like R2D2? While the costume may be difficult to get into, you can always resort to this R2D2 bathrobe to know exactly
what it’s like to be R2D2’s skin, or in this case, chassis. This bathrobe is also an officially licensed product, which is an important factor to consider if your BFF
adores Star Wars merchandise.
Wookie Jesus Portrait – If you feel like adding a bit of design on your BFF’s bedroom wall or home, you can give them this Wookie Jesus Portrait. The painting itself does not sound blasphemous, given the fact that the cross is made up entirely of two lightsabers and the Death Star in the background. Show your love for Star Wars and Jesus with this one breath-taking and signed portrait.
Believe it or not, the only reason why it’s hard to pick out a gift for geeky best friends is that there are a lot to choose from. The ones that I mentioned are barely the tip of the iceberg.
